Application of Automotive Speed Sensor in Automotive ABS Measurement

ABS performance varies depending on the control pathway. In general, it can be divided into: method 1:4, sensor 4-channel; Method 2: 3 sensors with 3 channels; Method 3: 4 sensors with 3 channels; Method 4: 4 sensors with 2 channels; Method 5: 2 sensors with 2 channels; Method 6: Single sensor single channel. The most commonly used methods are Method 1 and Method 3.


The control method of ABS belongs to electro-hydraulic control. That is to say, using a computer to control various solenoid valves to achieve the purpose of controlling hydraulic oil circuits. The overall control mechanism is the ABS computer. The computer collects and analyzes the wheel speed information detected by sensors on four wheels. If the four wheels have the same rotational speed, it proves that the vehicle is in normal braking condition. If a certain wheel speed is detected to be lower than other wheels, the computer will make a judgment that the wheel has locked, and then notify the solenoid valve that controls the wheel to quickly reduce the brake hydraulic pressure until the lock disappears. This is the overall control method of the ABS system.


According to different ABS methods, there are significant differences in performance. Nowadays, most cars are equipped with a 4-sensor 4-channel ABS system, which is the most high-performance ABS. The reason why it is called 4-channel is because it has 4 solenoid valves, each of which is responsible for controlling the brake hydraulic pressure of one wheel. And each wheel also has dedicated sensors to collect data, so the goal of automatic distribution of braking force can be achieved. That is to say, it can be precise enough to brake a single wheel individually. This means that when a wheel on one side or a wheel is driving on a road with a low coefficient of friction, it can still prevent the wheel from locking up. This high-performance 4-channel 4-sensor ABS has been replaced by a new term EBD, which means more than just preventing lock up, but can dynamically and automatically distribute braking force. So we call it the automatic braking force distribution system.
